Kit's Uniform of
THE SINGAPORE GUARD REGIMENT
Singapore Guard Regiment Uniform and Insignia
It was probably the SGR headdress "songkok" that was commonly misunderstood by most that the SGR was a Malay ethnic regiment commanded by British officers. The wearing of the red Songkok and a whistle and chain on guard duties is a reminder of the Regiment's original connection with the Royal Military Police. However, SGR was not the only regiment using the Songkok. The songkok headdress in various colours were also used by 11 other British and LEP Corps.
Decoration were incorporated to the Songkoks to indicate and differentiate wearer's rank.
